Richard Schwartz
(9/15/1943 – 11/16/2020)

Founding Member

Richard had 30 years of investment experience and was an expert in economics as well as complex estate, business and individual planning issues. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Economics at the City College of New York and his master’s degree in Political Science and Economics at the Graduate Faculty of the New School for Social Research.

Richard taught at Oregon State University and the University of Portland. He also owned a regional computer consulting company, a restaurant, and was an active investor in commercial real estate.

In his practice, Richard concentrated on the area of advanced tax and personal financial planning strategies, strategic business planning, mergers and acquisitions, asset protection, estate planning, and investment management.

GREG BACHMAN, CFA, CFP®

Chief Investment Officer, Director of Financial Planning, Partner

As a veteran advisor for over 23 years, Greg has an extensive background in asset management and all aspects of financial planning for individuals and institutions.

Greg earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance and International Business from Penn State University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) and Certified Financial Planner®, holds Series 7 and 66 securities licenses and is licensed with the State of Oregon in life, health and variable life insurance. He is a member of the CFA Institute, CFA Society of Portland, Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, and the Financial Planning Association of Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Greg’s areas of expertise are investment management and portfolio design, as well as retirement, risk management and estate planning for businesses and individuals.

Away from work Greg enjoys spending time with his wife Karla, two sons and daughter. His interests include woodworking, snowboarding, basketball, golf, weightlifting, and fine dining.

SCOTT MEEKER, CPA, PFS

Partner

A Personal Financial Specialist, Scott has special expertise in the design and implementation of retirement plans for business entities and non-profit organizations.

Scott graduated cum laude from Washington State University in 1984 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Following graduation, he served for nine years as an active-duty Naval Flight Officer in the U.S. Navy. He began his accounting career in 1993 after completing the Post Baccalaureate Accounting Program at Oregon State University.

He holds a Series 66 securities license and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants. Scott is a partner in SSCM and has special expertise in the design and implementation of retirement plans for business entities and non-profit organizations.

Away from work, Scott is an outdoor enthusiast who likes to golf, backpack, kayak and ski.

NICHOLS CUTTING, CPA

Partner & Chief Compliance Officer

Nick has a broad background in investments and particular expertise in estate taxation and administration. He earned his MBA at the University of California, Berkley, and holds a 66 Securities License.

Nick has served on the Oregon Board of Accountancy Uniform Accountancy Act Task Force and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has contributed extensively to the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants by serving on the Board of Directors, By-Laws Committee, Ethics Committee and Peer Review Committee. Nick has also served with distinction on the City of Corvallis Budget Commission, including six years as chair.

He specializes in retirement plans, estate and trust planning and administration, complex tax issues, nonprofit organizations, internal control issues, and financial statements reporting. Away from the office, Nick enjoys live theater, art museums, fine dining and Dixieland jazz.

JEFF GRIGGS, CFA

Portfolio Manager

Jeff is the portfolio manager for SSCM. He is responsible for developing and maintaining capital market and macroeconomic forecasts, model portfolios, and strategic allocations. Jeff is in charge of portfolio rebalance implementation, which includes fixed income/equity trades and allocations. As a member of the Investment Committee, Jeff is responsible for security analysis and selection. He is also the author of our firm’s quarterly newsletter.

While earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from Oregon State University, Jeff was actively involved in the Oregon State Investment Group, serving as Financial Sector leader and earning the Analyst of the Year designation. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) and a member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society of Portland.

Outside of work Jeff enjoys golfing, fishing and Beaver football.

Carolyn Pentland

Client Service Manager & Compliance Officer

Carolyn began her career in financial services over 25 years ago. Prior to joining the team at SSCM, she worked in Portland-area insurance and investment advisory firms, including a brief career as a financial advisor. Carolyn’s background brings a high level of experience, organization, and efficiency to the team.

Carolyn earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from George Fox University in Management and Organizational Leadership.

Outside of work Carolyn enjoys hiking, photography, travel, wine tasting, and spending time with family and friends.

Amy Davis

Client Service Assistant

Amy joined the SSCM team during the summer of 2016 to assist Carolyn with client administration in our Corvallis office. She brings many years of client service skills and creative solutions to our firm.

Amy earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Purdue in Psychology. She worked as a branch office administrator for Edward Jones before moving to Oregon from Indiana in 2006. After settling in Portland, Amy worked as an office manager while operating a part-time pet-sitting business for a number of years.

In her free time Amy enjoys traveling, antiquing, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
